Bikini Model Sierra Wearing a Thong Bikini at the Beach in San Diego / La Jolla California

Is it okay to wear a thong bikini at the beach, resort or in public?

Here at Berrydog Bikinis we have been selling thong bikinis, micro bikinis, Brazilian Bikinis and even sheer / see through bikinis for over 25 years. To give you some historical perspective, back in the late 90s when we started selling minimal coverage bikinis it was rare to see a woman on the beach in a thong bikini. However, over the last two decades thanks to the embracing of Brazilian and European attitudes toward nudity and the female form the adoption of these more liberal attitudes has led to more female empowerment and female body positivity and wearing thong bikinis are now very common and, in some places, more common than full coverage traditional bikinis.  Social media has also helped to normalize and change attitudes towards thong and minimal coverage bikinis as popular models and celebrities post pictures to their social media platforms wearing this style of bikini.  This trend would not have taken hold if thong bikinis were considered obscene and/or illegal in the USA.  In the USA, wearing a thong bikini at the beach is legal and acceptable in most jurisdictions. In many coastal communities it is the style of choice.

With that said it should be kept in mind even though thong bikinis are legal in the vast majority of beaches and resorts, acceptability is another thing. Some beaches or regions are more liberal about swimwear, while others have more conservative standards.

.So here are some things to keep in mind in order to have a thong bikini experience:

  1. Public Beaches: At most public beaches, thong bikinis are legal and not explicitly banned, but local ordinances vary, and some jurisdictions might impose rules on "modesty." and prohibit the exposure of the buttocks.  For example, many cities in Florida, California, Texas, Oregon, Washington and Hawaii and other coastal states have little to no restrictions, while more conservative states may have formal rules prohibiting the exposure of the female buttocks on public beaches.

  2. Private Beaches/Resorts: Resorts or private beaches can set their own dress codes, but most are very relaxed about swimwear. Resorts in Palm Springs, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Miami, Honolulu even allow topless tanning at their adult pools. With that said some resorts in more politically conservative areas may have dress codes prohibiting the wearing of thong bikinis so check ahead with the hotel and the front desk.Ultra Sheer G-String Bikini Set (Fuschia/White)

  3. Cultural Norms: As mentioned before In places like South Florida, California, Texas and certain parts of Hawaii, thong bikinis are very common and widely accepted. However, in more conservative or rural areas, they might attract disapproving looks or even be frowned upon.

  4. Nudity Laws: Be aware of local laws regarding nudity or semi-nudity. While thong bikinis aren't the same as being topless or nude, certain areas (especially more family-oriented beaches) might take a stricter stance against revealing clothing.

As long as you're comfortable and mindful of local norms and regulations, you're usually safe to rock a thong bikini in most places. Are you going to a particular beach, resort or area?
